Straight Out of Brooklyn: The story of a black family's going nowhere existence in the ghettos of Brooklyn, N.Y., and the oldest son's plan to rob a local drug dealer to turn things around for the family. Cast includes George T. Odom, Ann D. Sanders, Lawrence Gilliard, Jr., Barbara Sanon, Reana E. Drummond, and Mark Malone. (91 minutes, 1991)

Me without You: A timid and tender Williams and a straight and extroverted Friel have been best friends as long as they can remember, however as they come of age their kinship is compromised. This somewhat captivating chick flick has some good scenes, but it doesn't quite gel. Cast includes Anna Friel, Michelle Williams, Oliver Milburn, Trudie Styler, Marianne Denicourt, Steve John Shepherd, Nicky Henson, Allan Corduner, Kyle MacLachlan, and Anna Popplewell. (107 minutes, 2001)

The Sugarland Express: An amusing tale, based on truth, in regards to a youthful couple escaping to Sugarland, Texas, to recover their child (whom they want back after giving the child up for adoption), and the cops who chase them all the way through Texas. Cast includes Goldie Hawn, Ben Johnson, Michael Sacks, William Atherton, Steve Kanaly, and Louise Latham. (109 minutes, 1974)

Barfly: A surprisingly entertaining portrayal of L.A. lowlife, and boozy, recklessly macho author Henry Chinaski, played with bravado by Rourke. Dunaway is magnificent as his alcoholic soul mate. Based on the autobiographical writings of cult top choice Charles Bukowski, who might be noticed on one of the bar stools. Cast includes Mickey Rourke, Faye Dunaway, Alice Krige, Jack Nance, J.C. Quinn, and Frank Stallone. (97 minutes, 1987)

Metropolis: A classic silent film fantasy of a futuristic city and its mechanized civilization, with an upper class young man leaving behind his life of luxury to join overpowered employees in revolt. Cast includes Brigitte Helm, Alfred Abel, Gustav Froelich, Rudolf Klein-Rogge, and Fritz Rasp. (124 minutes, 1927)

Alfredo Alfredo: An all too normal Italian comedy in regards to a milquetoast who triumphs and weds a seductive female, only to regret the conquest. The lone interest is recognizing Hoffman's good work in this uncommon setting (with a dubbed voice!). Cast includes Dustin Hoffman, Stefania Sandrelli, Carla Gravina, Clara Colosimo, Daniele Patella, and Duilio Del Prete. (98 minutes, 1972)

Alias Jesse James: One of Hope's funniest films has him as an insurance sales associate out West, not the right job for a gunslinger. Fleming is a pleasant Western belle, and the 2 do a cute melody together. Cast includes Bob Hope, Rhonda Fleming, Wendell Corey, Jim Davis, and Gloria Talbott. (92 minutes, 1959)

The League of Gentlemen: An ex-army colonel enlists the help of prior officers (through blackmail) to pull off a large bank heist. High-style British humor makes this story of crime a pleasure. Cast includes Jack Hawkins, Nigel Patrick, Roger Livesey, Richard Attenborough, Bryan Forbes, Kieron Moore, Robert Coote, and Nanette Newman. (114 minutes, 1960)

Chicago Ten: An exclusive documentary approach to the tumultuous occurrences of 1968 when opposing groups appeared in Chicago to dispute the status quo, and the battle in Vietnam, throughout the Democratic Nationwide Convention. The film is balanced with excited renderings of the event and its trouble makers (taken verbatim from court transcripts), which became the show of the ridiculous. Without narration, talking head interviews, period music, or considerably situational material, this narrowly concentrated film grants a spiritual, compassionate, and instant portrait of a pivotal occurrence in American history. Cast includes Voices of Hank Azaria, Dylan Baker, Mark Ruffalo, Roy Scheider, Notch Nolte, Liev Schreiber, Jeffrey Wright, and James Urbaniak. (110 minutes, 2008)
