The Remastered Beatles

By Harold H. Quesenberry

It is hard for me to believe that 2009 has definitely been the year of The Beatles. Many Beatles dreams came true this year because their music was finally remastered for release on CD.

Beatles in Stereo Box Set

This box set has been the most popular Beatles release of 2009. It's been an enormous unit shifter and for good reason. It includes The Beatles complete 1960s discography in brilliantly digitally remastered stereo. These remastered Beatles albums sound absolutely wonderful (these CDs are definitely far superior to the 1987 mastered Beatles discs you likely own now.)

The really big improvement in comparison to the old CDs can be heard in the way McCartney's bass blasts through the mix like never before and Ringo's drums sound far better than they used to as well. Another big positive is being able to hear each individual vocal part with more clarity.

The Remastered Beatles Mono CD Box Set

The release that has gained the most attention of serious Beatles fans is The Beatles in Mono Box Set because it's the first time in many years that the original mono mixes of The Beatles music has been easily available.

Purist Beatles fans feel strongly that these mono mixes were the way the band's music was supposed to be enjoyed and these "purists" have a good reason to believe that. Mono was what most Beatles fans listened to in the '60s and it was the mono mixes that the band and it's producers spent the most time perfecting. Meanwhile, the band spent almost no time working on the stereo mixes up until The White Album.

Beatles in Stereo USB Stick

This Beatles USB is essentially a digital version of the remastered stereo box set. Along with the more well known mp3 files, it also includes super high quality 24bit FLAC files. Along with the obvious audio component, this USB stick also contains the visual elements from the stereo box set such as the thirteen mini documentaries, the extensive liner notes for each album, and the photographs.

The Apple USB stick is compatible with both PC and Mac computers. The mp3s that it includes should work with no problems with your mp3 player (whether it be a Zune, an iPod, or another machine.) - 29943
